How to tag contacts automatically
The Automations extension can tag contacts on its own, based on the triggers and conditions you set. You can add tags when any of these events fire:
- New Contact
- New Quote
- New Invoice
- New Transaction
After you pick a trigger, add conditions to narrow who gets tagged and with what:
- Has Status: The automation runs when a new contact is added, if that contact has the status you specified.
- Has Tag: The automation runs when a new contact is added, if that contact already has the tag or tags you specified.
- Field Contains: The automation runs when a new contact is added, if the selected field holds the data you specified.
Finally, in the “Choose Action” dropdown, select “Tag Contact” and type the tag you want in the field provided. Save the automation when you are done.
Together, those options let you automatically tag a new contact who, for example:
- is in a specific country
- has a specific status
- has a new transaction that contains a given word or phrase
- and many other combinations
Those tags then drive Contact Segments, and they control which contacts enter each email sequence in your Email Campaigns.
